Braces overbite rubber bands

Rubber bands can help correct an overbite when prescribed with braces, but their direction and wear schedule must match the orthodontic plan.

An overbite is the vertical overlap of the upper front teeth over the lower front teeth. Elastics connect selected upper and lower brackets to apply a force pattern that changes tooth position and, in growing patients, may support correction of jaw relationships.

Hook bands exactly where shown, replace them as directed, and never double them to speed movement. Keep brushing around brackets and contact the orthodontic clinic if a hook breaks, a wire cuts the cheek, or the bite changes suddenly.

Ask which teeth the bands are moving, how many hours they should be worn, and what to do after a missed period. Ask whether the overbite comes mainly from tooth position, jaw growth, or both.
