Does invisalign and braces do the same thing

Both move teeth with planned orthodontic force, but braces and clear aligners differ in materials, control, and daily use.

Fixed braces use brackets bonded to teeth and an archwire adjusted by the orthodontist. Invisalign uses a sequence of removable thermoplastic trays that apply pressure to selected tooth surfaces, often with small tooth-coloured attachments.

An orthodontist examines your bite, tooth roots, gum health, and jaw relationship, then uses photographs, scans, and sometimes radiographs to plan movement. The choice depends on the movements required and whether you can wear trays as directed and keep them clean.

Seek an orthodontic assessment when crowding, spacing, an overbite, or chewing difficulty concerns you. Prompt review is appropriate if an appliance causes persistent pain, a loose bracket, a sharp edge, or a tray that no longer fits.

Ask which tooth movements your bite needs, whether either appliance can deliver them predictably, and what attachments, elastics, extractions, or retainers may be required. Ask how wear, cleaning, reviews, and refinement trays would work in your plan.
