All-on-4 Implants

All-on-4 is intended for an atrophic jaw when regenerative procedures are not preferred. It is a full-arch approach, so the restoration is planned around the whole arch rather than isolated missing teeth.

Implant placement is surgical treatment, so discomfort can accompany the procedure and healing. Soft foods, cold foods, and warm soup are commonly used during implant healing.

Reported complications include peri-implantitis, mucositis, fistula, excessive swelling, implant fracture, loosening, framework or veneer fracture, and loss of retention.

A systematic review reported survival above 24 months at 99.8%, while also noting limited follow-up and methodological limitations.

Treatment places implants in the jaw, allows the restoration to be loaded according to the selected protocol, and fits the fixed prosthesis to the implants. Immediate loading is complex, while conventional loading may be chosen when stability is inadequate.

Implant healing can require time for bone to grow around and hold the implant. Where loading is delayed, implant loading between 6 and 8 weeks is supported for specified partially edentulous sites, while conventional loading takes longer than two months.

A fixed implant restoration can be compared with a removable implant-supported overdenture. The fixed and removable approaches differ in how the prosthesis is retained and used.
