In the usual laboratory process, the permanent crown is ready about two weeks after the preparation visit.

The temporary crown protects the reshaped tooth between visits. Brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between teeth, limiting sugar occasions, and regular check-ups help maintain the crown and natural teeth.

A white filling material that bonds to enamel can rebuild some teeth. For a front tooth with a light bite, a porcelain veneer may be an option.

Expect reshaping and an impression first, a temporary crown during preparation, and a separate fitting when the permanent crown is ready.

The standard process has a preparation visit followed by a separate permanent-crown fitting about two weeks later.
