Enamel Microabrasion

Enamel microabrasion removes a small amount of enamel to address selected surface appearance concerns. It is distinct from whitening, which changes tooth colour through a different approach and should be discussed after an assessment.

A dentist may consider microabrasion when the concern appears to involve the enamel surface. An examination is needed to decide whether the appearance concern is suitable for microabrasion, whitening, or another approach.

Microabrasion uses an acidic abrasive paste to remove a thin outer enamel layer. It is limited to surface stains and defects that do not extend beyond enamel.
