Cold sensitive teeth remedy

Cold sensitivity may improve when exposed dentine is protected, but decay, a crack, a worn filling, or pulp inflammation must be excluded.

Dentine has microscopic tubules linked to the pulp. Cold changes fluid movement in them, causing a brief sharp response when enamel or gum coverage is reduced.

Use a soft brush, light pressure, fluoride toothpaste, and a sensitivity toothpaste if appropriate. Limit acidic drinks and delay brushing after acid exposure.

Seek care for new localized sensitivity, lingering pain, biting pain, visible defects, or swelling. These signs can indicate more than simple exposure.

Ask whether recession, erosion, decay, a crack, or a restoration explains the symptom and whether repair or fluoride treatment is needed.
