Does teeth whitening damage veneers

Veneers are bonded shells made from porcelain or composite resin that cover the front surface of a tooth. Peroxide whitening acts on natural enamel and dentine, not on the finished veneer material. The result depends on the veneer material, its polish and margins, the whitening product, and the condition of the underlying tooth and gum.

A dentist should assess any pain because it may arise from decay, bonding failure, or the underlying tooth. Whitening cannot correct a veneer that is chipped, stained within its material, or mismatched.
