Clove oil for teeth whitening

Clove oil is not a proven tooth-whitening agent and can irritate oral tissues when applied directly, so use a dental whitening method instead.

Clove oil contains eugenol, an aromatic compound used in some dental materials and temporary pain-relief products. It may alter sensation or smell, but it does not remove the internal dentin color that professional bleaching targets.

Do not rub undiluted oil on enamel or gums. For a brighter smile, have stains assessed first, then use a dentist-directed peroxide treatment or professional cleaning when appropriate.

Seek care for burning, peeling tissue, swelling, persistent sensitivity, or a tooth that changed color from within. A single gray, brown, or nonresponsive tooth may need diagnosis before whitening.

Ask whether the color is surface stain, fluorosis, trauma-related discoloration, decay, or a restoration. Ask which whitening concentration and delivery method are appropriate for your enamel and gums.
