Sore and sensitive gums

Sore gums can result from plaque-related inflammation, brushing trauma, ulcers, hormonal changes, or infection, so the pattern and duration matter.

Gum soreness affects the gingiva around teeth and may occur with redness, bleeding, swelling, ulcers, or pain during brushing.

A dental examination checks gum margins, pockets, teeth, bite, restorations, and oral mucosa to distinguish gingivitis, periodontal disease, trauma, and other causes.

Use a soft brush with gentle pressure and clean between teeth; avoid tobacco and irritating foods while arranging care if symptoms persist.
