Vapour can expose the oral tissues to nicotine, heat, and other substances, while nicotine can alter blood-vessel responses and mask some inflammation. Dry mouth and changes in daily oral care can leave plaque at the gum margin, where it irritates the gingiva.
What can you do for your gums if you vape?
Clean along the gumline and between the teeth gently, drink water, and arrange help to stop vaping if you choose to quit. Do not use vaping as a treatment for swelling, and do not delay an examination if one area is painful, draining, or enlarging.
When should vaping-related gum swelling be checked?
See a dentist if swelling persists, bleeds, causes bad breath, or is associated with sensitivity, toothache, or a loose tooth. Get urgent care for fever, facial swelling, pus, or difficulty swallowing or breathing.
