Sensodyne for gum bleeding

Sensodyne is made for tooth sensitivity, so it may not treat the plaque-related inflammation that commonly causes bleeding gums.

Bleeding involves inflamed gingival tissue, while sensitivity involves exposed dentine and the pulp's nerve response. A sensitivity toothpaste targets a different mechanism from most gum bleeding.

Brush the gumline gently with fluoride toothpaste and clean between teeth daily. Use products for their labelled purpose and do not delay assessment of recurrent bleeding.

Arrange care for repeated bleeding, swelling, pus, recession, loose teeth, or a bad taste. Heavy bleeding or swelling affecting swallowing or breathing is urgent.

Ask whether plaque, calculus, a rough restoration, or a medical factor is causing bleeding and whether sensitivity also needs treatment.
