How to get plaque off dentures

Remove denture plaque by brushing the appliance with a soft denture brush and mild liquid soap or denture cleanser, then rinsing it thoroughly.

Plaque is a bacterial film that accumulates on acrylic and metal surfaces as well as natural teeth. Dried plaque can harden into calculus, which ordinary brushing may not remove.

Take the dentures out, rinse loose debris, brush every surface over a basin of water, and clean the mouth before reinserting them. Follow the cleanser label and avoid hot water.

Ask for professional cleaning if calculus remains, the denture smells persistently, or gums are sore, bleeding, or covered by white or red patches.
