Teeth are usually aligned first and whitened after active orthodontic movement because whitening gel cannot change the color of brackets or attachments.

Orthodontics moves teeth through bone with brackets and wires or clear aligners. Whitening uses peroxide gel on natural tooth structure, so fillings and orthodontic hardware may not change shade.

Have the dentist check for decay, cracks, gum inflammation, and existing fillings before treatment. A dentist can then choose in-office whitening or custom trays and manage sensitivity.
