Can you go to sleep with dentures

A denture is a removable acrylic or metal-supported replacement for missing teeth. While it is worn, the denture base covers oral lining and can trap plaque, food debris, and moisture against the gums and palate.

Overnight removal lets the denture and the tissues dry and rest. Wearing a poorly fitting denture for long periods can also increase rubbing, sore spots, and inflammation beneath the base.

Before bed, brush the denture with a denture brush and cleanser, rinse it, and brush your natural teeth, gums, tongue, and palate with a soft toothbrush. Store the denture as directed, usually in water or a denture-soaking solution, and never use hot water because heat can distort the material.

Do not use household bleach or abrasive toothpaste unless your dental team specifically instructs you. If the denture rocks, clicks, causes ulcers, or has become loose, stop trying to adjust it yourself and arrange an examination.

Seek dental care for persistent gum soreness, bleeding, white or red patches, repeated ulcers, swelling, or difficulty chewing after removing the denture. A dentist can inspect the mucosa, check the bite, and identify whether the base needs adjustment, relining, repair, or replacement.

Prompt assessment is appropriate if a denture breaks, becomes impossible to remove, or is associated with facial swelling or trouble swallowing or breathing.

Ask whether your denture fit and bite are stable, how it should be cleaned and stored, and whether your gums show pressure injury or inflammation. Also ask when the denture should be reviewed and whether a reline could improve its seal.
