How to care for dentures after soft reline

The lining contacts the oral mucosa, so plaque, food debris, and Candida can collect on it just as they can on other denture surfaces. Abrasive powders, stiff brushes, hot water, and solvent-containing cleaners can roughen or deform the material. The exact cleaning product depends on the reline material and the laboratory or clinician instructions.

Rinse the denture after meals, brush it gently with a soft denture brush and mild non-abrasive cleanser, and clean the mouth and tongue separately. Use cool or lukewarm water, and place the denture in a named denture-soaking solution only for the time stated for that product. When it is out, store it as instructed so the lining does not dry, warp, or become contaminated. Do not trim or glue the reline yourself.

Arrange a review if the denture rocks, the lining peels, the bite feels altered, sore spots persist, or the denture develops an odour that cleaning does not remove. Painful ulcers or suspected fungal infection also need assessment. Contact the treating dentist promptly if the denture becomes difficult to insert or remove, since forcing it can injure the mucosa or damage the reline.

Ask what polymer your soft reline uses, which brush and cleanser are compatible, and whether it should be kept wet when removed. Ask when the first fit and bite review should occur. Ask how long the lining is expected to remain serviceable and whether a repair or replacement is needed if it separates.
