Clove oil benefits for teeth

Clove oil contains eugenol, which can temporarily numb irritated tissue, but it does not remove decay or treat the source of dental infection.

Eugenol affects sensory nerve activity and is also used in some dental materials, such as certain temporary fillings and sedative dressings. Concentrated household clove oil can irritate or burn oral mucosa, and swallowing it can be harmful, especially for children.

Do not place undiluted oil on a tooth, gum, or open socket. For tooth pain, use gentle cleaning and an appropriate pain reliever as directed while arranging dental assessment; a dentist can use a controlled eugenol-containing material when clinically indicated.

Seek prompt care for swelling, fever, pus, worsening pain, or a damaged tooth. Get urgent medical advice after swallowing clove oil or developing breathing difficulty, extensive irritation, or facial swelling.
