A crossbite occurs when an upper tooth bites inside a lower tooth. An expander applies controlled force across the upper arch through an appliance attached to teeth.

The orthodontist examines the bite and may use photographs, scans, and X-rays. Keep the appliance clean, activate it only as prescribed, and attend adjustment visits.

Seek review for severe pain, a loose or broken appliance, persistent ulceration, or inability to follow the activation instructions.
