Baking soda and teeth cleaning

Baking soda may loosen some surface stain, but brushing with it alone is not a complete teeth-cleaning routine.

Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, a mild abrasive and alkaline salt. It can disturb soft plaque and external stain, but it does not disinfect every cause of bad breath, remove calculus, repair enamel, or replace fluoride.

Use a soft-bristled brush and a fluoride toothpaste designed for regular use. If you choose a bicarbonate product, follow its label and avoid scrubbing with dry powder or combining it with acidic ingredients.

Seek care for bleeding, pain, sensitivity, holes, rough deposits, or discoloration that remains after normal cleaning.
