Normal bottom gums

Healthy lower gums usually fit closely around the teeth, feel firm, and do not bleed, swell, or cause persistent pain.

The lower gum includes attached gingiva around teeth and movable mucosa toward the lip and floor of the mouth. Colour varies with natural pigmentation, so texture and symptoms matter too.

Look for a firm, even margin and clean gently at the tooth-gum border. Do not diagnose from colour alone because normal pigmentation varies.

Arrange an examination for new swelling, a persistent sore, recession, bleeding, pus, a lump, or a one-sided change. Sudden swelling with swallowing or breathing trouble is urgent.

Ask the dentist to compare the area with your normal anatomy and explain whether it reflects irritation, infection, recession, or normal variation.
