Is peroxide safe to use on teeth

Peroxide products can irritate teeth and gums, and their risks depend on concentration, contact time, enamel, and existing dental disease.

Hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide release oxygen that can break down some stain molecules. They do not repair decay or lighten fillings, crowns, veneers, or implant restorations.

Use only a product labelled for oral use and follow its directions exactly. Keep gel off the gums, do not swallow it, and stop if burning, ulcers, or significant sensitivity develops.

Have painful teeth, cavities, cracks, gum disease, or one dark tooth assessed before whitening. Seek care for persistent burns, ulcers, swelling, or severe sensitivity.
