How long do aligners take to work

Clear aligners begin moving teeth after planned force is applied, but the full course depends on the bite, tooth movements, attachments, and daily wear.

Each tray applies controlled pressure to periodontal ligament tissues, allowing bone to remodel around the moving root. Crowding, rotations, bite correction, impacted teeth, and limited wear can make the plan more involved.

Attend the scan and clinical examination, wear trays for the prescribed daily schedule, change them only as instructed, and keep them clean. Attachments, interproximal reduction, or elastics may be used when the movement requires them.

Contact the orthodontic team if a tray will not seat, an attachment detaches, pain is severe, or progress appears stalled. Retainers are needed after active movement to hold the result.

Ask which movements are planned, how many stages are forecast, what happens if tracking is lost, and what retention appliance will follow treatment.
