Peppermint oil for tooth abscess

Peppermint oil cannot drain or remove a tooth abscess; examination is needed to treat the infected tooth or surrounding tissue.

Do not place undiluted oil in a cavity or swelling, squeeze the area, or delay assessment.

Seek urgent care for facial swelling, fever, mouth-floor swelling, or swallowing or breathing difficulty.

Ask where the abscess began, whether drainage is needed, and whether the tooth can be restored.
