Gum dental floss threaders

A floss threader guides dental floss under a fixed bridge, around braces, or beneath a contact where ordinary floss cannot pass easily.

The looped threader is flexible plastic or nylon, and the floss is pulled through the loop before the stiff end is guided under an appliance or between teeth. The floss then cleans the tooth sides and gum margin with a gentle C-shaped motion.

Thread the floss once, move it under the wire or bridge, and clean each tooth surface without snapping into the gums. Use a fresh section for each space and consider an interdental brush or water flosser when the design of the appliance makes threading difficult.

Arrange a dental visit if flossing causes persistent bleeding, pain, swelling, or a trapped object that cannot be removed gently. Bleeding can reflect inflamed gums rather than a need to stop all cleaning.
