Dental cleaning at home kit

A home kit can support daily plaque control, but it cannot safely remove hardened tartar or replace a professional examination and cleaning.

A toothbrush removes soft plaque from tooth surfaces, while fluoride toothpaste helps protect enamel and interdental brushes or floss clean between teeth. Tartar is calcified plaque bonded to the tooth and usually needs professional instruments for removal.

Use a soft brush with fluoride toothpaste, clean between teeth with a suitable aid, and follow the device instructions without force. Avoid sharp metal tools, abrasive powders, and unlabelled chemicals that can injure gums or wear enamel.

Book dental care for bleeding or swollen gums, bad breath that persists, loose teeth, pain, visible tartar, or a cavity. Urgent review is needed for facial swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing or breathing.

Ask which home tools fit your gum spaces, whether bleeding indicates gingivitis or deeper disease, whether tartar is present, and how often you need an examination or professional debridement.
