Ceramic braces self ligating

Self-ligating ceramic braces use clear or tooth-coloured ceramic brackets with a built-in clip to hold the orthodontic archwire.

Ceramic brackets move teeth through the same basic orthodontic forces as other fixed braces. The clip replaces a separate elastic or wire tie, but it does not make the appliance free of cleaning needs or guarantee faster treatment.

Treatment depends on tooth position, jaw relationship, bone and gum health, growth, compliance with appointments, and the orthodontist's mechanics.

The orthodontist records photographs, scans or impressions, and X-rays, then bonds brackets and places archwires. Appointments change the wires or auxiliaries, and retainers are prescribed after active movement.

Brush around each bracket with fluoride toothpaste, clean under the wire with an interdental aid, and avoid hard or sticky foods that can damage the appliance.

Contact the orthodontic team for a loose bracket, displaced wire, severe pain, facial swelling, or a cut that cannot be relieved with orthodontic wax.

Gum swelling, persistent bleeding, or white marks on enamel need prompt review because plaque can collect around brackets.
