Pink bands braces

Pink bands on braces are elastic ligatures that hold the archwire in each bracket, and their shade can be changed at adjustment visits.

The bands do not move teeth by themselves and they are not a separate type of braces. Pink is simply the selected color of the polyurethane material, which may look different as it contacts food, drinks, and plaque.

Brush around every bracket with fluoride toothpaste and clean between brackets as instructed. At adjustment visits, the orthodontist can replace stretched or stained ligatures and check the wire, brackets, and bite.

Contact the orthodontic office if a band is missing, a bracket is loose, or the wire is poking and cannot be made comfortable with orthodontic wax. Seek prompt care for facial swelling, fever, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
