Braces rubber colors

Orthodontic elastics are available in many shades, and the choice is mainly cosmetic. The orthodontist selects the wire and appliance components that control tooth movement; the colored ligature holds the wire rather than moving the teeth by itself.

Choose a shade at the adjustment visit and mention foods or drinks that commonly stain light colors. Brush around each bracket, clean beneath the wire, and replace ligatures if one breaks or becomes loose.

Contact the orthodontic office if a ligature is missing, the wire is poking, a bracket is detached, or discomfort prevents normal eating. Do not replace an elastic with a household rubber band.

Ask which colors are available, which materials are used, and what to do if a ligature breaks. Ask whether your appliance uses ligatures or a self-ligating bracket system.
