Braces before and after adults crowding

Adult braces can move crowded teeth into a planned alignment, but the starting bite, bone, gum health, and retention determine the final result.

Crowding occurs when tooth positions and arch space do not allow an orderly arrangement. Brackets and archwires apply controlled force to the periodontal ligament, allowing bone to remodel as teeth move; photographs and scans document the starting and planned end positions.

Have an orthodontic examination with photographs, bite records, and appropriate radiographs or scans. Treat active decay and gum inflammation first, then follow brushing instructions, attend adjustment visits, and wear the prescribed retainer after alignment.

Arrange assessment if crowded teeth are difficult to clean, gums bleed, a tooth is trapped, the bite causes trauma, or teeth shift after earlier treatment. Pain, swelling, or a loose bracket also needs advice during treatment.

Ask what is causing the crowding, whether space can be created without removing teeth, how the bite will change, what the digital plan predicts, and what retention will be needed afterward.
