What is it like as a material?

Composite restorations can be made with hybrid or microfilled composites. Flowable resins are easier to adapt because they have lower viscosity, while their lower filler density makes them more susceptible to wear and polymerization shrinkage than packable composites.

Composite is used for direct restorations and is an alternative to amalgam fillings. A conventional posterior restoration is commonly built in increments of about 2 mm; bulk-fill composite can allow a single step of 4 mm or more.
