A bridge replaces a missing tooth with an artificial tooth attached to surrounding teeth for support. A fixed bridge stays in the mouth and is removed only by a dentist.

An implant bridge attaches artificial teeth directly to the jaw or below the gum tissue. It is a different fixed replacement route from a bridge supported by neighbouring teeth.

For anterior ceramic resin-bonded bridges, the best supported distinction is complication rate: cantilever designs had fewer complications, while restoration-failure rates did not differ significantly in the review.
